non-formal learning

“learning processes are categorised by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (2009) as formal, non-formal and/or informal. Formal learning is learning undertaken by young people as students usually through tuition from a teacher when they participate in schooling and college systems. Whereas informal learning is that learning which occurs outside of these settings in the home and peer group, for example. (…) Non-formal learning takes place alongside mainstream education and training but does not typically lead to formalised qualifications. Non-formal learning might involve young people collaborating with others usually with a similar interest or for a similar purpose. This might be at an international youth event or within a local youth club.”
