school-to-work transition

“Achieving employment as part of the school-to-work transition remains one of the core ‘problems and priorities in the sociology of youth’. (…) Securing employment and income is regarded as the key transition into independent adulthood (…).Within the context of youth labour market collapse, stagnation and ‘warehousing’, several researchers have demonstrated how youth transitions from education into employment became less linear and extend over a longer time period (Furlong and Kelly, 2005; Roberts and Parsell, 1992; Wyn and White, 1997). Chisholm (2006) also notes how these transitions became more complex as young people increasingly ‘blend’ periods of education and work.”
