The transition from school to work is one of the key steps from youth to adulthood. It is often seen as a key transition because it enables independent living and thus influences transitions in the private sphere. Economic and technological changes in the labor market have greatly altered this transition in recent decades.

Young people are much more likely to be affected by unemployment or to experience periods of insecure or poor employment. This also has consequences for skill requirements and for the course of the transition phase. At the same time, many socio-economic factors such as social origin, gender or migration continue to influence this transition.

In our projects, we describe the situation of young people in the labor market and also address social inequalities. We look at how young people themselves experience this transition and how they deal with problems. Complementary, some of our projects deal with measures to support the young people.
